Arena Oil Spill Solutions

Norwegian authorities set some of the strongest demands for oil-spill preparedness in the coastal zone. Considerable improvements are required in order to comply with these demands regarding technology, overall solutions, competence and organization.

The cooperating partners within Arena Oil Spill Solutions aim to be an active development group, and their objective is to develop world-leading solutions within the field of oil-spill preparedness. The commercial objective is to establish a competitive network of suppliers offering integrated solutions to a demanding national and international market.

The cluster consist of private companies with products and services relevant for oil spill preparedness, R&D-insitutions, investment companies and companies with specialized expertise. The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) is a cooperating partner. NCA is the Norwegian national agency for coastal management, marine safety and communication. The cluster project is financed by the partners themselves, the national Arenaprogramme and Innovation Norway.

Our main objective is to represent a complete industrial cluster within oil spill preparedness. The cluster shall also represent a motive power for development for each partner in order to succeed commercially. By focusing on innovation in the individual company, interaction regarding common important initiatives, and introduction of the cluster on the international market, we try to achieve our goals.

The oil industry and public authorities is the most important customer, and attracting demanding customers into the process is important to keep up with the standards described. The Norwegian Coastal Administration, different oil companies and NOFO (the Norwegian Clean Seas Association For Operating Companies) is discussion partners for the cluster with regards to development of oil-spill solutions. Internationally orientation is obvious for this cluster. In Norway, the strategy is to work in close interaction with the stringent demands for safety and preparedness that applies for the petroleum activity. Innovation and implementation of new solutions are important, and the cluster has a strong focus on equipment, technology and services, as well as organization and management of operations. Eventually the result will be new world wide standards.
